This powerful essay from 1978 by Thomas Berry was part of the inspiration for founding NewStories in 2000. It begins with these words:
It’s all a question of story. We are in trouble now because we do not have a good story. We are in between stories. The Old Story — the account of how the world came to be and how ew fit into it — is not functioning properly, and we have not learned the New Story.
First published in Teilhard Studies no 1 (winter 1978) and then compiled as “The New Story.” In Teilhard in the 21st Century: The Emerging Spirit of the Eatth, eds. Arthur Fabel and Donald St. John, pp 77-99. Maryknoll, NY, Orbis Books. 2003
