He is a serial entrepreneur and software engineer who has either founded or helped to build eight companies. At Tripod, in the first wave of the World Wide Web, he developed an online publishing platform that gave a voice to over 30 million people. He helped to start Eziba, a fair-trade e-commerce company working with artisans around the world and especially in conflict zones. He co-founded PRO Radiology, a medical-imaging company; Avanoo, an Internet company that developed applications at the intersection of consciousness and technology to “connect the global heart”; and CircLabs, a journalism technology company developed at the University of Missouri’s Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute.
